Car engine oil
Car engine oil is very simple in three steps: first Leave the old oil.Second Replace the oil filter. Third Add the new oil. But before you follow the steps, we will answer some basic questions.
When should I change the oil?
Look in the manual for your car. Most car manufacturers recommend changing the engine oil every 6,000 miles for normal service, or every 3000 miles for severe service. Can I use the oil every 6,000 miles, and my engine runs like new, when my car on the market with more than 100,000 miles they. One that I can do is take it in new vehicles after the first 300 miles break-in period. Then, after that the oil every 6,000 miles.
What kind of oil should I use?
You’re not going to make money by saving an oil-free brand, because your engine will wear out faster. Use oil filled, Pertroleum American Institute (API) classification SL. I use Valvoline, Quaker State, Pennzoil, or Havoline brand oil. These oils contain additives that make the quality of work longer and better.
If you change the oil just before winter, with oil SAE 10W30 weight. This number means that the oil has a thin 10 weight viscosity when the engine is cold, helping the engine starts easier, then the oil will thicken to 30 weight viscosity when the engine warms up, the best protection for the motor . If you change the oil just before summer, use SAE 10W40 oil. The extra 40 weight viscosity in order to protect your engine better when it’s hot.
What is the first step?
Let us cool your engine first. Modern engines operate at about 300 degrees (F) and hot oil will definitely give you a severe burn. You should not take your car, unless it is a kind of ground hugging sports car or low rider. Almost all cars have enough space to be reached and the engine oil.
Step 1: Allow the used oil.
Locate the drain plug and put in a container to collect the oil.Remove with a socket wrench, remove the oil cap.
Note for newbies: To remove the drain plug, turn right to left.
- If you have a GM dual-overhead cam Ecotec engine you may have trouble finding the drain plug on all that aluminum.
When the oil stops draining, reinstall the drain plug.
Note for newbies: To replace the drain plug of a clock. Start your fingers. If this seems a little difficult to go back! You are the Son through.
Step 2 Replace the oil filter.
Move the oil drip pan under the oil filter. Remove with an oil filter wrench to make it work, the oil filter. (Beginners. On the left side, and you get a little oil in your hand)
- A strap type oil filter wrench is the best type of use. A tool socket type oil filter is used with a ratchet as regular exercise. The problem with the socket type is that it tends to get stuck in the filter. Use the socket type tool if you do not have enough clearance around the oil filter to use the kind of band.
With your fingers, a thin layer of oil on the gasket of new filter for a better seal.
*! Attention now – this is where you can screw it’s true!
With the other hand, install the new oil filter. If this seems a little difficult to go back! You are the Son through. Most filters have an instruction printed on them to give the filter several times, after the board has been contacted.
This is what I recommend: screw the filter on their “main”. Then use the key oil filter to organize another round of 1 / 8 to 1 / 4.This is important!
If the vehicle is running, the oil pump the oil under pressure. To install on non-observance of the oil filter tight enough, the oil will come in spurts. If this is the case, turn off the engine immediately!Without oil, an engine block in seconds.
The first time I changed the oil, I have the filter wrench, tighten the filter as hard as I could get it. Wrong! The next time I went for my oil change, I could not fit the filter. Luckily I had a lot of space to the applicant, and pounding a screwdriver through the filter body and used the handle of a screwdriver to set the filter.
Attention! Do not overtighten the filter. Follow the above instructions!
- The dual overhead cam Ecotec engine has an oil filter on top of the unusual engine. Remove the hose from the air intake of the engine. It is the oil filter box just to the right, and later open at the end of the pipe inlet. Use a wrench of appropriate size to remove the bottle. This engine is a filter insert.
Step 3 Add the new oil.
Locate the oil filler cap on the top of the valve. I’ve seen beginners pour motor oil in everything from brake master cylinder to the radiator cap. Make sure you find the oil filler cap. Remove the oil filler cap.
When you pour the oil, it would be prudent, a funnel between the oil and valve cover oil filler use.
How much oil should be added? Consult the manual for your car. Most engines have a capacity of four or five quarters. Do not overfill the crankcase. If you are the engine the extra oil will be carried out through the PCV, possibly the engine of its stagnation.
Tip: If you do not know the capacity of the engine oil, add four quarts, then check the oil level, if not more in the fourth quarter.
Replace the oil filler cap.
Step 4 Start the engine.
Yes, I know told me that in just three steps. Ready, it’s not really a “step”.
Start the engine and make sure the oil warning light goes out.Look under the vehicle for oil does not flow. Stop the engine and let it sit for a minute to change the oil in the crankcase. Then use the test strips to check the oil level.
Check oil level: Remove the oil dipstick, wipe with a rag, reinstall the pin. Make sure the stem is all the way or you get an incorrect value. After a few seconds for the oil dipstick and examine how the stick is covered with oil. Most hollow sticks have a “FULL” mark printed on them.
Note: I think the best way to dispose of the oil, a funnel, the pores of the collection used on the shelf with bottles of wine that the new oil. If I had a big pile of used oil bottles, get the take the oil-recycling center. Be sure to mark the used oil bottles so you do not accidentally think they are the new oil.
